Maximizing Your Time With Your Editor

Join us as we explore the general art of editing, while uncovering practical (and even unexpected) solutions to the challenges met by filmmakers once in the edit suite.


Fredrik Thorsen

Fredrik Thorsen is a writer, director, and editor. His first film, "Wake Linda", a half-hour drama, won numerous awards at international film festivals, including; the Palme d'Or (Grande Prize) at Huy World Festival of Short Films in Belgium, and the Best Fiction Film (short film category) at the Montreal World Film Festival. As an award-winning editor he has worked on eleven feature films, television pilots, and documentaries.

Fredrik is a self-taught entrepreneur who founded Comet Post Production Inc., a post-production facility which provided state-of-the-art editing services for the local and international film & television industry for over 10 years. 
He enjoys inspiring others to follow their filmmaking dreams. He believes that storytelling is at the heart of a thriving community, and that everyone should be able to tell their story.

The Costume Designer

Workshop #2 - 11:45- 1:15pm

The Costume Designer’s role on a film set is integral to shaping the story. From understanding the characters and their motives, to creating the colour palette enhances the visual representation of the story.  Costume Designers pour over every detail of each costume from texture and weight of fabrics to how each actor “wears” their costumes. Many actor have stated that they only embodied the character once they step into their costumes.

Lean how Costume Designers work through the process from breaking down the script, creating mood boards, and working with Directors to bring each costume to life on screen.


Ellen Anderson

Costume Designer

Ellen Anderson is a Leo, CAFTCAD and Emmy nominated costume designer. Her credits include: Deadly Class, Jennifer’s Body, Nancy Drew, Monster High, and Baby-Sitter’s Club. She is currently the Costume Designer on the TV series Tracker, the number one show in North America on all platforms.

Workshop #3 - 2:00- 3:30pm

Taking a blank space and creating a world that is authentic, lived in, enhances the story AND is eye candy is the impossible job of the Set Decorator.  

Come learn how Set Decorators and Designers create story driven sets that are full of detail under tight timelines and budget restraints.


Jeff Insell

Set Designer

Jeff Insell is a professional Set Decorator working in Victoria for Film and Television for the past 7 years.  A member of both IATSE and ACFC West Unions.  Some of his credits include; “The Casket Girls” with Gabrielle Union, “A Christmas Less Travelled” with Candace Cameron Bure. Assistant Decorator on Chesapeake Shores S6 and Reginald the Vampire S2 with Jacob Batalon.

This workshop is an exploration of the physical subtext tools writers can use to inspire deeply connective story journeys in our filmmaker readers and their audiences.

Michael Bruce Adams

Michael Bruce Adams is a produced writer with over 25 years of film and television production experience. Michael has written 37 feature film and television scripts and is a Script Consultant for feature films, documentaries and television series with clients in Canada, the US, China, Malaysia, Ghana, England and Spain.

As an educator, Michael began teaching story seminars with Peter D. Marshall’s Action, Cut, Print film directing programs. Michael then spent two years in China as senior writing instructor for Shanghai Vancouver Film School’s Writing for Film and Television Program returning in 2018 to teach select classes at the Vancouver Film School. As a filmmaking mentor, Michael served as story and production consultant on hundreds of produced student film projects. Michael continues educating internationally through workshops and seminars based on his ‘Story Courage’ theory work.
